AFT/IPL Laser Therapy
AFT The Next Generation of IPL Laser Treatments
AFT (Advanced Fluorescence Technology) is the next generation of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser treatment technology that improves the texture, tone, and appearance of skin with minimal downtime.
AFT is one of the newer forms of light therapy. Unlike a laser, AFT uses a broad range of light wavelengths to deliver energy to the skin to treat fine lines, liver spots, discolorations, spider veins, and rosacea. AFT is a type of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy.
IPL therapies, including AFT, deliver a burst of intense, high-energy light to the face. The light is preferentially absorbed by darker-pigmented areas of the face, such as sunspots, rosacea reddening, and spider veins. The energy of the light heats up and destroys the pigment or capillaries that are the cause of the blemish. The heat of the light is also absorbed to a limited degree by the unpigmented areas of the skin, causing the skin to tighten up. The heating effect also induces the skin to produce more collagen.
We make use of the Harmony Lite AFT laser which is an advanced type of IPL that offers increased energy, enhanced clinical results, less pain and downtime.

How does the Harmony Lite AFT device work?
This light is attracted to red or brown pigment. The target cells absorb the light emitted from the laser and are destroyed. With this advanced IPL device, we can offer treatment of pigmented (brown) spots such as those due to sun damage, age spots and freckles as well as vascular (red) lesions/spots from rosacea, broken capillaries and sun damage.
The device has a build in cooling tip to make the procedure as comfortable as possible for the patient.

AFT corrects signs of:

-
Brown marks and spots – like sun-damage, sunspots, age spots, liver spots and freckles
-
Red marks and spots – like diffused redness, rosacea, red and sensitive skin, broken capillaries, tiny red visible veins, and birth marks.
-
Aging and dull skin – dull aged skin, fine lines, and wrinkles

So, if you would like skin rejuvenation i.e., to improve irregular pigmentation and sunspots or reduce persistent redness, dilated blood vessels or red birthmarks this could be the treatment for you.

What to expect?
-
A consultation is scheduled 48 hours prior your treatment if you are a new patient. This consult will determine if the treatment is a correct fit for your skincare concern. We will also do a test shot to ensure that the treatment would be safe to use on your skin.
-
You will need to stay out of the sun leading up to your treatment.
-
On the day of your treatment, we cleanse the skin of the area being treated and apply a conducting gel.
-
During the treatment you may feel some discomfort or stinging.
-
After your IPL treatment, the gel will be removed, and a moisturizer and medical grade sunscreen will be applied.
Is IPL safe for all skin tones?
-
Unfortunately, not. Darker skin tones are at increased risk of post procedural pigmentation. Your pre-procedural consult will determine the best treatment option for you.
Is there downtime after AFT treatment?
-
Downtime is minimal to none. Patients may resume most normal activities immediately post treatment.
-
Makeup may be applied immediately post treatment.
-
Sunscreen must be applied on a daily and regular basis, and you should stay out of the sun.
-
A couple days post treatment, pigmented areas will appear darker than before, this is all very normal and what we want to achieve.
-
Tiny “scabs” may appear and flake off.
-
The skin may appear red or even swollen.
-
Most of the aftereffects will only be visible to you and not others.
How long does the treatment last?
-
2-3 weeks post procedure once the skin has healed you should see some change. Most conditions require 4-6 sessions at 3–4 week intervals to achieve the maximal effect.
-
Once cleared maintenance treatments are often recommended to maintain the results.
