Professor Carol Hlela

Prof Carol Hlela is one of two specialist paediatric dermatologists in the country. She diagnoses and treats common and rare skin conditions for both children and adults, including the following;

Acne.
Eczema.
Ringworm.
Warts.
Diaper rash.
Hair loss (alopecia).
Moles; screening and care.
Skin cancer screening.
Rashes; caused by allergic reactions or bacteria/fungal infections.
Psoriasis.
Rosacea.
Pigmented and vascular conditions; melasma, vitiligo and birthmarks.
Actinic keratosis (AK).
She also performs minor surgical procedures, including skin biopsies, surgical removal of skin lesions (e.g., cysts, warts), and laser treatment of vascular birthmarks.

Rates Consultation Fees; R745 per 30 minute consultation.

Biography Prof Carol Hlela is a dermatologist with a Master's in Science in Global Health Science (MSc GHS) and a PhD in Clinical Medicine from Oxford University.

Currently heading the dermatology department in the paediatric unit at the Red Cross Children Hospital, she is also employed by the University of Cape Town, where she teaches medical students, supervises PhD candidates.

Her dedication and exceptional work led her to become the first recipient of the prestigious Netcare Hamilton Naki Clinical Scholarship, which was established to contribute to South African leadership in all branches of academic medicine. Her remarkable journey has led her to become one of South Africa's most well respected paediatric dermatologists.
